1. What is fusion splicing? keyboard_arrow_down
In short, fusion splicing is about connecting, also called splicing, two fibres, and consequently with as little loss as possible, as little reflection as possible and the highest possible mechanical strength.
Furthermore, it is important that the connection is stable and long-lasting - many years ahead!
2. What is a core splicer? keyboard_arrow_down
A core splicer uses advanced technologies, including light and cameras, to ensure that the fibre cores are placed accurately against each other before splicing begins.
3. What is a clad splicer? keyboard_arrow_down
When splicing, a clad splicer holds the fibre cables physically against each other in a retainer or a V-groove, based on the outer diameter of the fibre cable.
Since variances in outer diameter can occur, the cores does always align accurately at the joint. Therefore, clad splicing is rarely as accurate as core splicing, thus resulting in a little higher splice loss.
4. Should I choose a core or clad splicer? keyboard_arrow_down
What type of splicer you should choose, depends on your needs and your budget.
In brief:
- If precision is highest priority when you splice, a core splicer is the right choice.
